F-15A: single seat, 384 units built.
Internal armament:
M61-A1 Vulcan 20 mm Gatling gun with 940 rounds.
Maximum speed at high altitude: Mach 2.5 (1,667 knots, 1,918 mph, 3,087 km/h).
F-15B: two-seat trainer, 61 units built.
The F-15B led to the developing of the F-15E, the attack version.
When it entered service in 1974, the F-15A had HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) which made operating the equipment easier. This system made possible to change HUD settings, choose weapons and radar modes without taking the eyes of the target.
The Hughes APG/63 radar had multi-mode PD (Pulse-Doppler) optimized for Air-to-Air operations.
