The F-15B led to the developing of the F-15E, the attack version.

When it entered service in 1974, the F-15A had HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) which made operating the equipment easier. This system made possible to change HUD settings, choose weapons and radar modes without taking the eyes of the target.

The Hughes APG/63 radar had multi-mode PD (Pulse-Doppler) optimized for Air-to-Air operations.
